Parker Homestead 2016

Parker Homestead is located in Poinsett County, Arkansas. Every fall there is a festival portraying life "in the good old days" in rural Arkansas.

The old homestead has added buildings from the area. There is a post office, church, several businesses and homes to tour. Demonstrations are ongoing and items for sale as well as a variety of food vendors.

A Fun Day In and Around Limerick

After a scenic ride down country roads, we were treated to tea and scones at Molanna Dairy Farm.

Following the dairy farm tea and tour we boarded the motor coach for    

our lunch stop in Adare.

In Adare we enjoyed lunch and a walk about town.

Adare still has several buildings with thatched roofs.

Treaty Stone

Treaty was signed in 1691 granting rights to Irish Catholics

regarding political and religious liberty.

Limerick is known as the "city of the violated treaty."

Fall Recap 2014

The last couple of months have been busy with family and several short trips around the state.

This old barn is on my way to Eureka Springs.

I finally took the time to stop and take a picture.

I spent the day at the Arkansas State Fair.

Ate some fair food, visited exhibits and watched my husband help judge the Spam cooking contest.

 

Our son was in Little Rock for a football weekend.

It is always good to spend time with him.

They are always cooperative with my photo snapping (not).

I walked around the William E. Clark Presidential Park Wetlands.

I made a quick stop at the Peebles Pumpkin Farm near Augusta, Arkansas.

Purchased several pumpkins and gourds for my yard.

 

 

My husband planted late purple hull peas in his little garden.

 

My 95 year old mother-in-law came for a visit and shelled the peas for me.

She kept me busy playing cards and Mexican train.

I spent some time at her home in Eureka Springs before bringing her home with me.

Lakeport Plantation - Lake Village, Arkansas

Part of our lower Arkansas Delta road trip included a visit to Lakeport Plantation. The plantation is an Arkansas State University Heritage Site. The house is is the only Arkansas plantation home still standing on the Mississippi River. Lycurgus and Lydia Johnson built the home in 1859.

The home was placed on the National Historic Register in 1974. In 2002 it was designated as an official project of the Save America's Treasures program through the National Park Service and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

 

Arkansas State University operates the site as a museum and educational center.

 

I really like the side porch with the pretty wrought iron details.

The tall windows with pretty blue shutters go all the way around the house.

The new bridge between Lake City, AR and Greenville, MS is visible from Lakeport.

 

I encourage you to step back in time with a visit to Lakeport Plantation.

The plantation house is still surrounded by cotton fields.
