Family Feud - Hatfields and McCoys

I recently attended the 66th Annual Southern Legislative Conference in Charleston, West Virginia. While the legislators attend meetings the registered guests are offered various tours by the host state.

Early morning flight from Memphis.

Embassy Suites, Charleston, WV
With a couple of delays in Atlanta we arrived in WV.

After registration and a good night's sleep I was ready to board the bus and see what West Virginia had to offer. The first stop was the Chief Logan State Park - Museum in the Park.
Movie props from "We Are Marshall" the 2006 movie about the 1970 plane crash that killed 75 individuals -  members of the football team, coaches, university staff, etc.

Blenko Glass Exhibit

A large part of the collection had to do with the coal mining industry.

We were treated to a home cooked meal.

We had visitors during lunch, Mr. Hatfield and Mr. McCoy.

They took a break from the feuding long enough to pose for a few photographs.

After lunch we were off to visit sites related to the Hatfield-McCoy feud.

The Matewan Museum
Union History in Matewan

This young man traveled with us on the bus giving the history of the Hatfield-McCoy feud.
He is a university professor. He has been instrumental in restoration of the sites and researching the history for accuracy. He is a very proud West Virginian.

We ended our tour with a visit to the Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce.
The building is built of coal.
