Heidelberg on a Peaceful Sunday

DAY FIVE, June 25, 2017

Sunday morning was a great day for visiting Heidelberg.

We headed for the castle with our guide.

Heidelberg Castle keeps watch over the city.

The Heidelberg Castle was mentioned in Mark Twains travel book A Tramp Abroad.

The earliest structure was built before 1214.
The castle has been added on and destroyed numerous times since its beginning.
Fire and war have taken a toll over the centuries.

We continued on to Altstadt or Old Town with our guide.
Here you can see the castle in the background.

Statue of St. Mary

After the tour we were on our own to walk about the quiet city streets.

Each home displayed a bit of whimsy.

Sweet little cupid announcing the street number.

With my travel companions on the Old Bridge.

I hope the couples are as happy today as they were on the day they placed their locks on the old bridge and tossed the key into the Neckar River.

Strasbourg, France next!
