Lexington to Concord

In late September we went to see the grandchildren in Lexington, Massachusetts.

 

This is the Minuteman Statue on Lexington Common.

The "shot heard around the world" was fired on these grounds.

 

We had lots of time to explore the area while the family was at work and "school".

The weather was wonderful. Just a hint of fall in the air.

 

Buckman Tavern was a gathering place for militiamen preparing for the Revolutionary War.

The tavern is also known to have housed the first town post office and store.

 

The leaves were just beginning to turn in late September.

 

 

The is one of the monuments at the Old North Bridge in Concord.

April 19, 1775, after shots were fired in Lexington, the British moved on to Concord planning to find and take the weapons they had heard the militia was storing in the area.

Militia poured in from the surrounding area and drove the British back as they attempted to cross the bridge in pursuit of weapons.

Now, the real reason for our trip to Lexington.

We spent one day at a local farm with the family.

 

The children enjoyed the sheep, goats, cows, and chickens

They also were excited to take a hayride.

 

We were lucky to be in town for the annual neighborhood block party.

Great food and fun for everyone.

Fall Recap 2014

The last couple of months have been busy with family and several short trips around the state.

This old barn is on my way to Eureka Springs.

I finally took the time to stop and take a picture.

I spent the day at the Arkansas State Fair.

Ate some fair food, visited exhibits and watched my husband help judge the Spam cooking contest.

 

Our son was in Little Rock for a football weekend.

It is always good to spend time with him.

They are always cooperative with my photo snapping (not).

I walked around the William E. Clark Presidential Park Wetlands.

Another interesting building I pass often.

Would love to hear the history.

 

I made a quick stop at the Peebles Pumpkin Farm near Augusta, Arkansas.

Purchased several pumpkins and gourds for my yard.

 

 

My husband planted late purple hull peas in his little garden.

 

My 95 year old mother-in-law came for a visit and shelled the peas for me.

She kept me busy playing cards and Mexican train.

I spent some time at her home in Eureka Springs before bringing her home with me.

Riding the Train, Eureka Springs, Arkansas

When is the last time you rode on a train? The train in Eureka Springs takes you back in time and gives a glimpse of the rugged landscape of the Arkansas Ozarks.

The conductor gave the children nails for the train to run over on the tracks.

They looked like little swords after they were flattened.

 

 

 

The people on the train are in the dining car.

A meal on the train is another option.

The scenery was enjoyable.

I had handed him my camera and asked him to take my photo by the train.

I'm never in the pictures because I'm always behind the camera.

I guess he didn't hear me because he walked off in this direction and snapped this photo. Love the light. Good photo.

We almost got caught in a thunderstorm.

Father's Day 2013

Father's Day weekend we traveled to Eureka Springs, AR for a visit with family. My 92 year old mother-in-law was our hostess for the weekend.

A visit from grandson Nicholas made this a very special Father's Day.

Jim's mom, Zula, spent the day cooking for us while we took a train ride.

That evening she kept me up until after midnight playing cards!

She is remarkable.
